Workers at Boeing aircraft parts supplier Spirit Aerosystems have recently ratified a new labor agreement. The approval of this deal paves the way for the resumption of production at a Wichita facility in Kansas, following a work stoppage last week.

Spirit Aerosystems is a key supplier of fuselages for Boeing’s popular 737 Max aircraft, as well as other components for Boeing and various other manufacturers. Production was temporarily halted when workers rejected a proposed contract and opted for a strike.

“As we evaluate potential impacts on production and deliveries, we are closely monitoring the situation,” stated Stan Deal, CEO of Boeing’s commercial airplane unit, in a message to the staff.

On Tuesday, the company and the workers’ union, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, reached a new tentative agreement for the 6,000 workers. According to the union, 63% of the workers approved the revised deal.

“This agreement effectively addresses our members’ concerns by offering substantial wage increases, preserving the CORE healthcare plan benefits that our members insisted on, and eliminating mandatory overtime,” stated the union upon reaching the initial agreement on Tuesday.

The workers are expected to return to work on July 5. The production pause occurred at a challenging time for Boeing, as they are striving to ramp up aircraft production. Nonetheless, the company had some fuselages in its inventory to sustain the manufacturing during the strike.
