Platforms’ Use of AI Outlined in Meta’s Meta

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has unveiled a range of new tools and insights regarding artificial intelligence (AI) and its integration into its social media platforms.

In a recent news release, Meta introduced two dozen system cards that specifically focus on different features for Facebook and Instagram. These cards offer information on how Meta’s AI systems rank content and determine relevance to users.

Moreover, Meta’s new AI algorithms can now identify harmful content, reducing the distribution of problematic or low-quality content that fails to meet guidelines.

“By utilizing these tools, you have the power to shape your experiences on our apps to view more of the content you desire and less of what you don’t,” stated Nick Clegg, Meta’s President of Global Affairs, in the news release. “To simplify this process, we have created centralized locations on Facebook and Instagram where you can customize controls that influence the content you see on each app.”

“You can access your Feed Preferences on Facebook and the Suggested Content Control Center on Instagram through the three-dot menu on relevant posts, as well as through Settings,” he added.

Users will now have the ability to personalize their own feed, including the option to add favorite accounts to a dedicated “favorites list,” enabling them to view content specifically from those accounts.

AI has gained significant popularity in recent times, with various industries aiming to streamline their processes and provide additional assistance.

One notable AI platform is OpenAI’s ChatGPT framework, which was launched in November. This chatbot generates highly sophisticated, human-like responses to user queries.

Other companies have also introduced or announced their own AI implementation services this year. Microsoft, for instance, revealed that their new premium messaging service, Teams Premium, will be powered by ChatGPT’s messaging service.

However, the increased use of AI technology has garnered attention from lawmakers in Washington.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) recently stated lawmakers will need to start from scratch to determine how to regulate AI use in the country. He plans to introduce a framework called the SAFE Innovation Act, acknowledging the imminent changes that will come with new technologies.
