Conservative attorney George Conway has criticized Donald Trump, stating that his latest excuse demonstrates his lack of defense in the classified documents case. According to Conway, Trump and his team have been unable to provide a coherent factual or legal defense because he is guilty of the crime. Conway further asserts that Trump’s desperate attempts to evade the charges indicate his absence of a valid argument. Conway suggests that Trump’s continuous lies have now reached an end.
In a damning audio recording from 2021 that was aired by CNN, Trump can be heard discussing “highly confidential” documents from the Defense Department that he claimed to possess after leaving the White House. However, Trump contradicted himself by stating on Tuesday that he actually did not have any classified documents and was merely posturing. He admitted to holding up papers and discussing them but clarified that he did not possess any documents.
Since the FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago club in August, Trump has provided a series of inconsistent explanations. He has alleged that the FBI planted the documents and asserted that anything he took from the White House was automatically declassified. Trump also claimed that he had the power to declassify documents through mere thought, and at times, he denied having any documents at all.
Trump was indicted this month on 37 felony counts related to the case, to which he pleaded not guilty.
