19-Year-Old Man Accused of Involvement in Shooting at Palm Desert Mall, Faces Charges

A 19-year-old man has been charged with felony counts in connection with a car-to-car shooting that took place in the parking lot of The Shops in Palm Desert earlier this year. Court records show that Daniel Joseph Santacroce of Desert Hot Springs has been charged with four counts of attempted murder, as well as one count of shooting at a vehicle and possessing a short-barreled rifle or shotgun. The victims in this case were only identified by their initials in court documents: “A.R.,” “M.R.,” “P.G.,” and “G.R.”

Santacroce is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.

Deputies from the Palm Desert station of the sheriff’s office responded to reports of shots fired at the mall on Highway 111 around 2 p.m. on February 2nd, according to Sgt. Travis Mountz. The shooting took place in the south parking lot of the mall and involved a car-to-car incident. Fortunately, no one was injured, despite over 40 rounds being fired, which authorities believe were gang-related.

Following an investigation, authorities executed a search warrant in the 66000 block of San Remo on Tuesday, where they discovered a short-barreled rifle, AR-15 parts, and a high-capacity magazine. Santacroce was subsequently arrested and taken to the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio, where he is being held on $1 million bail.

In addition to Santacroce, two other individuals from Adelanto, Allen Curcio Adams Jr. and Alexander Brice Alvarado, both 20 years old, have also been charged in connection with the shooting. They face the same charges as Santacroce, as well as additional charges of shooting at a vehicle dwelling and being convicted felons and narcotic addicts in possession of a firearm. Adams and Alvarado were arrested following a search warrant in the 11100 block of Hyattsville Street in Adelanto on March 22nd.

Adams and Alvarado are currently being held without bail at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. Investigators are urging anyone with additional information about the shooting to contact investigator William Hickok at 760-836-1600.
