Authorities apprehended three teenage boys on Wednesday in relation to a shooting incident that resulted in the injury of a young girl and her mother at a hamburger stand in South Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the attackers mistakenly targeted the victims, believing them to be members of a rival gang.
The shooting took place at the intersection of 81st Street and Avalon Boulevard at around 5:30 p.m. on June 5. The 20-year-old mother was inside a car with her one-year-old daughter, eight-month-old daughter, and another woman in the Monster Burger parking lot when three suspects approached them and fired shots at their vehicle.
The 20-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound in her leg, while the one-year-old girl was shot in the foot, as confirmed by the police.
Law enforcement officials discovered several shell casings of both 9mm and .45-caliber at the crime scene. Through surveillance footage, investigators were able to identify and subsequently arrest the two 16-year-old boys and one 17-year-old boy involved. As the suspects are minors, their identities have been withheld.
Police suspect that the motive behind the shooting was gang-related, with the assailants erroneously perceiving the victims as rival gang members.
All three suspects have been charged with attempted murder, according to the police.
