New Restaurant Developments in Pittstown: Shooter’s Bar Unveils its Grand Opening

A brand new establishment known as Shooter’s Bar & Grill recently opened its doors in early May at 2113 Route 7 in Pittstown. This location was previously occupied by Papa Brillo’s, an Italian restaurant, for around 10 months before it relocated to East Greenbush and changed its name to P. Brillo’s.

Shooter’s Bar & Grill offers a delectable American comfort food menu that includes popular dishes like wings, pizza, and burgers. Additionally, the bar boasts a full liquor license, as evidenced by the photos available on its Facebook page.

In another exciting development, Jonathan Quinn, a highly skilled chef with seven years of experience as the chef de cuisine at Osteria Danny in Saratoga Springs, will be taking up the position of executive chef at Dukes Chophouse at Rivers Casino in Schenectady. Quinn has previously worked at esteemed establishments such as Yono’s in Albany and MezzaNotte Ristorante in Guilderland before joining Osteria Danny. His transition to Dukes will occur after he fulfills his obligation at Osteria Danny, a process that he estimates will take another month. It’s worth noting that Dukes Chophouse has experienced a high turnover rate among its head chefs, but Quinn is prepared to bring his culinary skills to the forefront and establish stability. He also emphasized that the benefits and salary offered by Dukes were simply too good to pass up, particularly since he has three children to support.

When discussing his decision to apply for the position at Dukes, Quinn revealed that Danny Petrosino, the owner of Osteria Danny, encouraged and supported his pursuit of this opportunity. Quinn appreciates Petrosino’s guidance throughout the process, and he stated, “He told me I had to at least try for it. I did, and a month later, they offered me the job.” In his new role, Quinn expects to inject some creative flair into Dukes while maintaining the steakhouse identity. He will also serve as a liaison between the restaurant’s management and its unionized back-of-house employees.

Despite his excitement for this new chapter in his career, Quinn admits that he will sincerely miss the Osteria Danny family. Nevertheless, he firmly believes that the offer presented to him was too valuable to decline.

On a different note, Thorn + Roots, a health-conscious restaurant located in Saratoga Springs, will be hosting a special event to commemorate National Smoothie Day on June 21. On this day, the restaurant will be offering free smoothies to customers from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. These promotional smoothies will only be available for in-store purchase, and each customer is limited to one free smoothie. In conjunction with this event, Thorn + Roots will be accepting donations, which will be allocated to Wellspring Saratoga, an organization that supports individuals impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault in Saratoga and Washington counties. Thorn + Roots is renowned for its delicious grain bowls, salads, avocado toasts, acai smoothie bowls, and cold-pressed organic juices. Furthermore, the restaurant has additional branches in Burlington, VT, and Ridgewood, NJ.

Lastly, the unfortunate passing of Paul Lai, the former owner of Jack’s Chinese Restaurant in Colonie, occurred on June 6 at the age of 88. Details regarding the cause of his death have not been disclosed. Lai and his wife, Mary Lai, relocated to Colonie from Hong Kong in 1969 to establish Jack’s, which occupied 1881 Central Ave. (The property also included a motel.) Lai was known for his dedication to his restaurant and his active involvement in the Chinese community. However, in 1993, he faced federal criminal charges that depicted him as a criminal mastermind, managing one of the largest and most ruthless Asian crime syndicates in the United States. The charges included gambling, extortion, arson, and murder, and Lai was ultimately convicted in 1995. He was released after serving half of his 10-year sentence.

Following Lai’s departure, his son William Lai assumed control of Jack’s Chinese Restaurant, renaming it Pacific Wave. He eventually sold the establishment after two years, and it now operates as Dragon Buffet at 1881 Central Ave.

The funeral service for Paul Lai will be held on Tuesday, June 20, at 10 a.m. at Liberty Church, located at 1840 Albany St. in Schenectady.
