It’s finally happened. Ted Leonsis, the CEO and chairman of Monumental Sports and Entertainment, has relinquished the no-trade clause on Bradley Beal’s contract. This move marks the beginning of a long and challenging rebuilding process for the Washington Wizards. While freeing themselves from Beal’s massive contract is an important step, the team should have also focused on acquiring young prospects and high draft picks to build a strong foundation for the future. Unfortunately, Leonsis made the mistake of committing too much to Beal, a player who, despite his individual accomplishments, has not been able to lead the Wizards to sustained success. This decision has ultimately hindered the team’s ability to make beneficial trades and move forward. Now, with a new president in charge, the Wizards must embark on a rebuilding journey that should have started much earlier.
