Six People Arrested and Home of Former Brazilian President Bolsonaro Raided in Fake Vaccine Card Investigation

Brazilian authorities conducted a raid on the residence of former President Jair Bolsonaro, as they investigated a group accused of forging COVID-19 vaccine cards. The Federal Police arrested six individuals, including Bolsonaro’s former top aide Colonel Mauricio Cid. Furthermore, warrants were issued for ten other suspects.

According to TV Globo and Globo News, the suspects reportedly entered false vaccine information into the Ministry of Health system, claiming that Bolsonaro, his 12-year-old daughter Laura Bolsonaro, Cid, his wife, and daughter had received vaccinations. The Federal Police are also examining whether the former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro’s vaccination card was tampered with.

The Federal Police stated, “With this, such people were able to issue the respective vaccination certificates and use them to circumvent the current health restrictions imposed by public authorities (Brazil and the United States) aimed at preventing the spread of contagious disease, in this case, the Covid pandemic.”

Following the raid, former President Bolsonaro addressed reporters outside his home, confirming that he had not received the COVID-19 vaccine and denying any involvement in falsifying information within the government’s health database system. He expressed surprise at the raid and mentioned that his cellphone was seized.

Bolsonaro’s daughter also did not receive the vaccine. However, National Health Data Network records indicate that Bolsonaro received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine on August 13, 2022, and October 14, 2022, at a municipal health center in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro.

The investigation revealed that vaccine information was initially entered into the National Immunization Program Information System on December 21 by the Duque de Caxias city government secretary. However, the records were subsequently removed on December 27 by the vaccine director, citing an error in the system.

Bolsonaro and his daughter left for the United States on December 30, just before his presidential term ended. The former president is facing other legal challenges as well, including investigations into diamond jewelry received from Saudi Arabia and potential involvement in inciting the uprising by his supporters on January 8.

Additionally, Brazil’s electoral court is investigating his actions during the presidential election campaign, particularly his claims about the vulnerability of the nation’s electronic voting system to fraud. Bolsonaro is also under investigation for spreading falsehoods and disinformation and is facing charges related to the alleged genocide of Indigenous people in the Amazon rainforest.

In conclusion, six individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged forgery of COVID-19 vaccine cards used by former President Jair Bolsonaro, his family, and top aides to enter the United States.
