Midcentury Glory: Captivating Images of the Tropicana Las Vegas

  • The prestigious Tropicana hotel in Las Vegas may soon be demolished to make way for a state-of-the-art baseball stadium.
  • Originally opened in 1957, the Tropicana was once the most extravagant and expensive resort ever built in Las Vegas.
  • Frequented by celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor, the Tropicana was known as the “Tiffany of the Strip.”

The iconic Tropicana hotel and casino, established in 1957, is set to be demolished in order to make room for Las Vegas’ first baseball stadium, as reported by The New York Times.

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo recently signed a bill approving $380 million in public funds for the development of a $1.5 billion stadium to accommodate the relocation of the Oakland Athletics major league baseball team, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The new stadium will be constructed on a 9-acre portion of the Tropicana’s 35-acre plot, leaving the fate of the remaining 26 acres uncertain. Soo Kim, Chairman of Bally’s Corporation, which owns the Tropicana, has mentioned the possibility of transforming the site into a revitalized resort-casino, according to the Review-Journal.

Insider has reached out to Bally’s Corporation for comment on their plans for the site, but they have not responded at this time.

As we anticipate the eventual demise of the illustrious Tropicana, let’s take a nostalgic journey back to its heyday as one of Las Vegas’ most opulent destinations.
