A 25-year-old woman, Aleisha Schmitz, who allegedly absconded from a state correctional reentry program in Los Angeles, has been apprehended once again. Schmitz was taken into custody without any resistance around 5:35 p.m. on Saturday in North Hills, as confirmed by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
Schmitz had reportedly left the Custody to Community Transitional Reentry Program in Los Angeles County, although the exact date of her departure remains unknown.
Following her recapture, Schmitz has been relocated to the California Institution for Women, where her case will be reviewed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for potential escape charges, according to the CDCR.
The CDCR reveals that Schmitz was sent to state prison from Los Angeles County on July 7, 2022. Her sentence includes three years of imprisonment for second-degree robbery and hit-and-run causing injury.
The Custody to Community Transitional Reentry Program offers eligible inmates the opportunity to serve their sentences in the community instead of being confined to state prison. This program provides a range of services such as alcohol and drug recovery support, employment assistance, educational opportunities, housing assistance, family reunification support, and social assistance.
Since 1977, the CDCR reports that 99% of all incarcerated individuals who have escaped from prisons, camps, or community-based programs have been successfully recaptured.
