June 19 (UPI) — A woman in Ohio has made a bold decision to keep a strikingly tall werewolf statue in her yard, despite a warning from the city authorities.

Mary Simmons, a resident of Dayton, purchased the 9 1/2-foot werewolf as a Halloween decoration in October and decided to keep it up throughout the year.

Simmons explained her reason for keeping the statue, saying, “He has become somewhat of a mascot for my house. I see it as a form of security. Who would dare break into a house with a 9.5-foot werewolf guarding it? Certainly not me.”

Simmons has taken the creativity a step further by dressing the werewolf in different outfits to reflect the seasons and holidays.

“We plan on dressing him up in a big Hawaiian shirt and perhaps some sunglasses,” she said with enthusiasm.

This werewolf, affectionately named Paul by Simmons, has even gained popularity on social media. He now has his own Facebook page with over 2,000 followers.

While most neighbors have embraced the presence of Phil in Simmons’ yard, an anonymous complaint was filed by one resident and the city of Dayton issued a warning to Simmons.

However, city officials have currently shown no intention of enforcing the removal of the werewolf. Simmons has taken precautions to ensure that Phil’s presence is safe for her neighbors as well.

“I don’t want his head falling off and accidentally hitting someone passing by,” Simmons expressed. “I believe in treating others the way I want to be treated, and I wouldn’t want that to happen to me.”
