Adele Candidly Announces She Is Dealing with a Fungal Infection Known as ‘Jock Itch’ During a Live Performance

Adele recently opened up about an unexpected downside to her Las Vegas residency: jock itch. During her “Weekends With Adele” shows at Caesars Palace Colosseum, the 35-year-old singer revealed that her doctor diagnosed her with the fungal infection after sweating in her Spanx under the hot stage lights. Despite finding it a bit embarrassing, Adele candidly shared her experience, mentioning that she and her team were discussing it earlier. She explained that wearing Spanx helps her look and feel her best during performances, but the sweat tends to accumulate and not go anywhere. As a result, she ends up sitting in her own sweat. To address the issue, her doctor prescribed jock itch cream.

Jock itch, also known as tinea cruris, is a common fungal infection that occurs in warm, moist areas of the skin, often in the groin, buttocks, and inner thigh regions. Athletes and those who sweat excessively are particularly prone to this condition, as Mayo Clinic explains. Adele humorously acknowledged her “athlete” status and jokingly referenced the NBA player Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets, teasingly connecting him with jock itch.

This is not the first time Adele has openly discussed health concerns during her residency shows. Earlier this year, she disclosed to her audience that she had been performing with a disintegrated disc in her spine, causing severe sciatica in her left leg. Sciatica is characterized by shooting pain that radiates from the lower back down the leg due to compression of a nerve in the spine, as stated by Mayo Clinic.

During her New Year’s Eve performance, Adele shared a video where she mentioned having to “waddle” due to her chronic back pain. She expressed her eagerness to reach the other side of the stage and the discomfort caused by her sciatica. Adele has been dealing with back pain for nearly twenty years, and her resilience in continuing to perform is commendable.

After a three-month hiatus, the British singer returned for the second leg of her residency, exhibiting both nerves and excitement. She expressed how much she missed performing and how it truly is the highlight of her week. Adele genuinely loves entertaining her fans and considers it a delightful change, imbuing her shows with a whole new level of meaning.

Adele’s second leg of “Weekends with Adele” began on June 16 and will continue until November 4.
