Taylor Swift celebrates Father’s Day amidst confirmation of her upcoming single ‘Cruel Summer’

Taylor Swift had an incredible weekend during her Eras Tour in Pittsburgh, giving fans plenty to celebrate. One highlight of her Saturday show at Acrisure Stadium was the first live performance of her song “Seven,” featuring The National’s Aaron Dessner. She also took the opportunity to give a heartfelt Father’s Day shout-out:

“I have an amazing dad who has never missed a show. He’s the best, and I love him so much,” Swift expressed, according to Billboard. “The song we’re about to play is all about cherished childhood memories.”

She went on to acknowledge that not everyone has a simple relationship with their dad, but encouraged the audience to think of anyone who has played a father figure role in their lives. Swift expressed her gratitude for her dad and for all the parents who prepared to be at the show with their children.

On Instagram, Swift further praised her dad, sharing, “Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, but especially mine, who is one of my best friends. He helped meticulously glue every tiny crystal onto my guitar and still never misses a show.”

In addition to celebrating Father’s Day, Swift addressed the news that her song “Cruel Summer” from her 2019 album “Lover” will be released as a single. Before performing “Champagne Problems,” Swift shared with the audience:

“The most magical thing is happening. Throughout my entire career, this has never happened to me before.”

She then explained that “Cruel Summer” was her favorite song on the album and how she was excited for it to become a single. Due to the unforeseen circumstances of the COVID pandemic, the song was not released in 2020. However, Swift expressed her gratitude to her fans for streaming the song so much in 2023 that her label, Republic Records, decided to make it the next single.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has been a smashing success, with “Cruel Summer” gaining popularity and re-entering the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Swift opens her shows with the song, and it has been streamed millions of times since the start of her tour, reaching No. 47 on June 17.

After her incredible Pittsburgh show, Swift is now heading to Minneapolis for her next tour stop. Stay tuned for more exciting updates from this record-breaking tour.
