Ideologues’ well-established tactic for introducing radical race and gender theories into K-12 classrooms and other domains: Implement it discreetly and, when exposed, quickly attempt to cover their tracks.
The most recent instance? Pearson, the largest education publisher in the world, embarked on a clumsy effort to erase evidence of its promotion of controversial political ideologies after the Heritage Foundation issued a report exposing its support of critical race theory.
Pearson, like many other corporate giants, fully embraced “equity” in 2021 and adopted new editorial guidelines to incorporate woke concepts such as “intersectionality” and “colonial discourse” into all of its materials.
Last Thursday, a researcher from the Heritage Foundation, Jonathan Butcher, brought this issue into the spotlight. As a result, the guidelines and accompanying videos promoting these ideas vanished from the internet. The company’s spokesperson went into full denial mode, asserting that critical race theory is not included in Pearson’s K-12 materials or any materials used for government contracts.
Whenever these efforts receive any attention, they immediately go into defense mode. One would think that advocates for social justice would proudly own their initiatives!
Pearson, which operates a massive digital learning platform, produces materials for all grade levels in US schools, and influences teacher licensure and federal agency hiring, is not one to take a stand.
