F1: Horner Urges Sergio Perez to Focus on Driving Rather than the Title

Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, advised Sergio Perez to shift his focus from fighting for the Formula One championship to simply focusing on his driving. Despite holding the second position in the standings, Perez trails his teammate, Max Verstappen, by a significant 53 points after seven out of 22 races. Horner stressed the need for Perez to stop fixating on the championship and instead concentrate on his driving skills during an interview on Sky Sports television. Perez’s lackluster performance in the wet final practice for the Canadian Grand Prix resulted in a 17th-place finish, while Verstappen secured pole position. Perez’s continuing struggle to secure a spot in the top 10 starting grid positions has been a recurring issue for the past three races. Although Red Bull has been dominant this season, winning every race thus far with Verstappen claiming five victories, Perez has failed to secure a podium finish in his last two races: zero points in Monaco and a fourth-place finish in Spain. In May, during the Miami Grand Prix, Perez briefly challenged Verstappen for the championship lead, with both drivers boasting two wins each. However, Horner noted that Perez’s recent performance has been underwhelming and that he needs to find his confidence and competitive spirit once again. Horner believes that if Perez can loosen up and perform naturally, he will regain his earlier form. Despite the pressure, Perez remains determined to bounce back and secure a strong finish in the upcoming race.
