Hyundai Rotem showcased its revolutionary hydrogen-powered train at the Korea Railways & Logistics Fair in Busan, South Korea. This cutting-edge train emits only water vapor, making it a true zero-emission transport solution. Hyundai Rotem, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor, plans to begin regular production of the hydrogen train by the end of this year, following successful trial runs.

The innovative design of the train includes a purification system that can eliminate 800 micrograms of fine dust and generate 107.6 kilograms of clean air per hour. In recognition of its groundbreaking features, the train recently won the esteemed iF Design Award. By relying on a hydrogen fuel cell for its electrical power, the train contributes to the global effort to reduce harmful emissions, particularly carbon dioxide. This environmentally-friendly technology is also being developed by other industry leaders, such as Alstom and Siemens in the United States, Japan, France, and Germany.

Germany, which has set a target to phase out diesel fuel by 2040, is planning to transition its entire train fleet to eco-friendly models like the hydrogen-powered trains. Recognizing the immense growth potential in the hydrogen train market, Hyundai Rotem is determined to establish a strong presence in the global train industry. “We are focused on securing a competitive edge in both the current market and the future,” shared a Hyundai Rotem official with UPI News Korea.
