King Charles and Princess Anne Bestow Sovereign Standard to Army prior to Trooping the Colour

King Charles and Princess Anne made a rare joint engagement at Buckingham Palace today, where the King presented the new Sovereign’s Standard to The Blues and Royals squadron. Both siblings stood on a dais as 35 soldiers and 27 horses formed up on the Quadrangle for the presentation. The King spoke of his “great pride” in the bond between the Blues and Royals and the monarch, particularly in times of difficulty and threats. The standard, made of silk damask with gold embroidery, was consecrated before being handed over to Major Peter Ireland. In a speech, King Charles praised the squadron’s operational and ceremonial roles and commended the standard as a source of pride and inspiration for the soldiers. After the ceremony, the King and Princess Anne met with guests, including past and present members of the Household Cavalry and friends and family of those on parade. The newly consecrated standard will be on parade at the King’s first Birthday Parade, Trooping the Colour, on Saturday.
