- On Tuesday, Nicole Daedone, the founder of OneTaste, pleaded not guilty to forced labor conspiracy charges.
- A federal indictment alleges that Daedone intentionally recruited individuals who were victims of trauma.
- In a previous interview, Daedone suggested that individuals who experienced childhood sexual trauma may have a heightened ability to experience arousal.
The founder of OneTaste, an organization sometimes referred to as an “orgasm cult,” pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to allegations of coercion, manipulation, and abuse in a forced labor scheme, specifically targeting individuals with a history of sexual trauma.
Nicole Daedone has been charged with forced labor conspiracy by federal prosecutors for her involvement with OneTaste. She was released on $1 million bond.
OneTaste and Daedone promoted a practice known as “orgasmic meditation,” which involved light stroking of the upper left side of the clitoris for 15 minutes.
In a 2022 Netflix documentary, former members of OneTaste described being psychologically manipulated into participating in sexual activities they would not have otherwise engaged in.
The FBI alleges that Daedone and co-defendant Rachel Cherwitz extracted labor from their members through various forms of abuse, including economic, sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse, surveillance, indoctrination, and intimidation.
Prosecutors claim that Daedone intentionally recruited individuals with traumatic backgrounds by promising that OneTaste’s courses and teachings could heal past sexual trauma and dysfunction.
In a previous interview with Insider, Daedone made similar remarks about individuals who have experienced sexual trauma, highlighting their heightened ability to experience arousal.
Daedone explained that this heightened arousal led to a greater capacity for achieving states of wellbeing that are typically challenging for this group.
She also stated that both partners involved in orgasmic meditation would experience heightened states of consciousness, resulting in healing.
In the Netflix documentary “Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste,” former members expressed feeling pressured to participate in orgasmic meditation, whether it was to succeed within the organization or due to influence from Daedone.
Daedone did not appear in the documentary and previously stated that it presented an inaccurate portrayal of OneTaste.
A spokesperson for Daedone did not respond to Insider’s request for comment or an interview with Daedone.
