Scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology conducted risky experiments involving the fusion of newly discovered coronavirus strains, potentially creating deadly mutant versions of the virus. According to US investigators, they believe that Covid-19 may have been developed by these scientists at the lab through experiments on a similar coronavirus found in a mineshaft in southern China. The researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology allegedly fused highly-infectious mutant strains of coronaviruses, which were then used to infect albino mice. These experiments were conducted under a secret research program funded by the Chinese military, with the suspected aim of developing bioweapons.
The investigators further claim that the Covid-19 virus was accidentally leaked into the city of Wuhan from the lab, leading to its global spread. The Wuhan Institute of Virology had initially started its research to uncover the origins of the SARS virus that emerged in southern China in 2002. However, the focus shifted to conducting increasingly risky experiments on coronaviruses taken from caves in southern China. Initially, the institute shared its findings publicly, stating that the research was crucial for the development of coronavirus vaccines. But in 2016, after discovering a new coronavirus in a mineshaft in Mojiang, Yunnan, near the border with Laos, the institute classified its research.
The newly discovered coronavirus from the Mojiang mineshaft is believed to be closely related to Covid-19. Chinese authorities failed to report any deaths linked to this virus. Instead, the viruses were transported back to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where a secret research initiative was launched. US investigators suspect that this initiative aimed to enhance the infectiousness of the newly discovered virus by fusing it with other coronaviruses. These experiments involved infecting albino mice with SARS-like viruses, resulting in death rates of 75%.
According to the investigators, it was through these classified experiments that Covid-19 was ultimately created and accidentally released from the Wuhan lab. They suggest that several researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology may have contracted Covid-19 as early as November 2019, a month before the global awareness of the virus. A study conducted by Wuhan University also indicates that the area surrounding the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the initial epicenter of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The investigators claim that the Wuhan lab concealed its links to the outbreak by attributing it to the nearby Huanan wet food market, located several miles away on the other side of the Yangtze river. They also allege that the lab had already started developing a vaccine for Covid-19 prior to the pandemic, with military scientist Zhou Yusen producing a vaccine patent with remarkable speed in February 2020. Zhou, who was later reported to have died, was supposedly thrown off the roof of the Wuhan institute, according to witness statements to the US investigators.
Following the leak, Chinese authorities implemented an information clampdown, hindering the investigation into the origins of Covid-19. Foreign scientists were denied access to the caves where the virus was initially discovered, and their samples were confiscated by the police.
