Safe Operation Conducted at Encampment in Chatsworth Revealed in Internal Investigation

In a recent operation carried out by Mayor Karen Bass’ Inside Safe program in Chatsworth, approximately 40 homeless individuals were provided shelter, as announced by the mayor’s office on Wednesday.

The operation, led by Bass, Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, and Councilman John Lee, took place near the Chatsworth Metro station in the 12th District. The mayor’s office reported that an estimated number of over 40 individuals were brought to nearby motels.

Notably, this operation was unique as it involved cooperation between multiple jurisdictions, as stated by the mayor’s office.

“We must continue our efforts to bring as many Angelenos indoors as possible throughout the city,” stated Mayor Bass. “To effectively tackle this crisis, it is crucial to adopt a regional approach, which is exactly what we are doing with this operation.”

Councilman Lee expressed his gratitude towards Mayor Bass and Supervisor Horvath for their partnership in finding housing for individuals and addressing the concerns of the community regarding this particular location. He emphasized the importance of collaborative work to identify solutions to the crisis.

Supervisor Horvath highlighted that successful partnership and effective coordination played a key role in bringing individuals inside in Chatsworth. This operation marked the 20th Inside Safe encampment in the city, with more than 1,300 Angelenos already provided shelter, according to the mayor’s office.

Mayor Bass’ initiatives to address homelessness in the city have included declaring a state of emergency, issuing executive directives to expedite and reduce the cost of constructing affordable and temporary housing, and optimizing the utilization of city-owned properties for both temporary and permanent housing.
