Frequent Flight Cancellations: British Airways at Heathrow and easyJet at Gatwick – What’s the Reason?

To minimize disruption, it is advisable to avoid congested hubs and dominant airlines.

At London Heathrow, a number of planes arrived after midnight on Monday morning, which is unusual as all arriving flights are typically settled by 11pm.

The delayed arrivals included British Airways Airbus jets from Dublin, Glasgow, Naples, Pisa, Porto, and Prague.

About 900 tired passengers had to navigate through the empty terminal buildings, only to find out that the Underground and rail lines were closed for the night.

Meanwhile, at Gatwick, thousands of easyJet passengers were still waiting for their flights. Over 60 easyJet flights had been canceled the day before, including departures to Cyprus, various Greek islands, and a long-haul flight to Antalya.

On Monday, more than 40 flights were canceled by easyJet at their main base in London Gatwick, affecting destinations such as Lanzarote, Chania in Crete, and Dalaman in Turkey.

In response to my previous article on the travel disruptions faced by BA and easyJet passengers, a Twitter user named “Call me Frank” asked: “Where does the fault stem from?”

Frank suggested three potential reasons:

  • Weather, some huge storms?
  • Lack of aircraft or crew?
  • Poor management/planning?
