Following his not-guilty plea, Trump made a stop in New Jersey for a fundraising event at his golf club in Bedminster, but not before making a “strategic detour” to Versailles, a popular Cuban restaurant and bakery in Little Havana known for its support of the GOP. Trump greeted supporters, creating a media-friendly campaign-like atmosphere, according to the AP.

Evelio Medina, who assisted in organizing the visit, commented, “He could have gone straight to the airport and flown to his Bedminster fundraiser after being arraigned on 37 counts.” Instead, Trump chose to visit and connect with his Latin supporters at Versailles, where he engaged with them and enjoyed a cafecito, as reported by the Herald. On the eve of his 77th birthday, supporters serenaded Trump with a rendition of “Happy Birthday.” However, a reporter who dared to ask if Trump was ready to go to jail was promptly ejected, according to the Guardian. Sophie Alexander from Sky News tweeted about being thrown out of Versailles bakery, stating that a man shouted offensive remarks at her.

When Trump arrived at the golf club to deliver his evening remarks, he was met with hundreds of enthusiastic supporters on the patio, as reported by the AP. Notable attendees included MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, a staunch supporter of Trump’s claims regarding election fraud, who stated that he was present “to support our real president, Donald Trump.” Lindell even regarded the federal indictment as a “blessing” because he believed it would improve Trump’s poll numbers.
