In an unexpected turn of events, UFC superstar Conor McGregor has resolved his differences with Burnie, the Miami Heat mascot, following an incident that led to the mascot’s hospitalization. McGregor, known for his extravagant personality both in and out of the octagon, assures that there are no lingering grudges.
According to TMZ, McGregor stated on Tuesday, “It was a skit and all is well. I spent a lot of time with him afterward, we talked it out, everything is great. It was all part of the show.”
During a promotional skit for his brand, TIDL, McGregor engaged in a staged physical altercation with Burnie in the midst of Game 4 of the NBA Finals. The intention was for McGregor to humorously inflict harm on the mascot, following which he would spray him with his pain relief product for a speedy recovery.
However, McGregor’s enthusiasm got the better of him, as he inadvertently struck Burnie with a forceful blow that appeared to genuinely land.
Regrettably, the pain relief spray did not provide its intended benefits, and Burnie had to be rushed to the emergency room for actual medical assistance.
It remains uncertain whether McGregor will be welcomed back to the Kaseya Center after this incident. Nonetheless, Heat coach Erik Spolestra did not seem overly bothered by the ordeal.
With a smile, Spoelstra remarked before Game 5, “That’s the Miami Heat toughness that we’re talking about. [Burnie] should have been allowed to take the first swing.”
Continuing on a positive note, Spoelstra mentioned that if Game 6 were to occur, Burnie would be present, emphasizing his resilience by stating, “He’s not going to miss any time.”
Unfortunately, the Heat ended up losing Game 5, depriving Burnie of a triumphant return for Game 6.
Meanwhile, McGregor has a real fight on his horizon against fellow fighter Michael Chandler, scheduled to take place during the fall season, once they complete their coaching stints on “The Ultimate Fighter.”
