Patroons’ East championship secured by Jamil Hood’s impressive late surge

The Albany Patroons have secured The Basketball League’s East Conference championship with a resounding 135-108 win over the Newfoundland Rogues in Game 2, thanks in part to reserve guard Jamil Hood’s contribution to the game-ending 28-3 run. Hood entered the game just 50 seconds before the Patroons found themselves trailing 105-107 with 6:38 remaining, and his quick thinking proved vital. He racked up 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal during the surge to propel Albany to victory. The Patroons will now advance to a best-of-3 regional series against the St. Louis Griffins, starting on Thursday in St. Louis.

Ed Dyson III hit a season-high of 37 points on 14-of-19 shooting and Shadell Millinghaus had a triple-double with 33 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists to help secure Albany’s victory. Patroons coach Derrick Rowland pinpointed the team’s depth as the key to their success, with Albany playing 10 players compared to Newfoundland’s seven-man roster. Marquise Collins led Newfoundland with 34 points, but was neutralized late on by the Patroons’ double-team.

The win sets the Patroons on a 1,000-mile, 15-hour bus journey to St. Louis, with the winner of the regional series set to battle it out with the victor of the Potawatomi Fire-Seattle Super Hawks regional series for the prestigious TBL championship. Rowland hailed his team’s hard work and dedication and urged them to focus on the next challenge. Games 2 and 3, if necessary, will be played Sunday and Monday at the Armory, giving the Patroons the perfect opportunity to continue their triumphant run.
