Thomas Sarnoff, Television Executive, Passes Away in Woodland Hills

Thomas W. Sarnoff, a renowned television executive who left an indelible mark on the industry, has passed away at the age of 96. Sarnoff’s six-decade career spanned the creation of family-friendly touring events and the restructuring of NBC Entertainment Corp., responsible for negotiating the famed studio’s Burbank facility and historic production deals with all-time greats like Bob Hope and Elvis Presley. Notably, Sarnoff oversaw the production and worldwide touring of live, family-friendly arena shows like “Peter Pan” and “Disney on Parade” in partnership with Walt Disney Productions.

After leaving NBC, Sarnoff went on to create Sarnoff International Enterprises Inc., where he produced arena tours featuring beloved Hanna-Barbera characters and revived the clay-animated character Gumby, among other endeavors. Sarnoff was also a leader in the television industry and community affairs, serving as chairman of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, chairman emeritus of the Television Academy Foundation, and council member of former chairs for the Television Academy. Sarnoff’s contributions to the industry were recognized in 1997 when he received the Syd Cassyd Founder’s Award from the Television Academy.

Sarnoff was born in New York City in 1927 and was the youngest son of radio and television pioneer David Sarnoff, founder of RCA/NBC media. Sarnoff is survived by his three children and grandchildren. Memorial service information is currently unavailable.
