According to Prosecutors, Militia Members were Seeking to Initiate a War at the Border, Kill Migrants and Border Patrol Agents.

Two militia members, Bryan Perry from Clarksville, Tennessee, and Jonathan O’Dell from Warsaw, Missouri, have been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of planning to shoot at Border Patrol agents and undocumented immigrants in an attempt to “start a war” at the southern border. The 44-count indictment alleges that the pair planned to travel to Texas and murder any Border Patrol agents who attempted to stop them. The indictment charges them with seven counts of attempted murder of FBI agents and assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of assaulting FBI agents, and 14 counts of using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

According to the indictment, the plot allegedly began in 2022 when Perry and O’Dell attempted to recruit other men to join their self-styled 2nd Amendment militia, launched a recruitment event, and collected firearms, ammunition, and other supplies at O’Dell’s residence as a staging ground. Perry posted a series of videos on TikTok, expressing that he and O’Dell were “ready to go to war against this government,” as Border Patrol was committing treason by allowing undocumented immigrants into the United States. Perry also stated that “we’re out to shoot to kill” and that “our group is gonna go protect this country.”

By the time law enforcement moved to arrest them, prosecutors allege the men had amassed six guns, 23 magazines filled with ammo, body armor, sniper rests, explosive mixtures, and other supplies. Perry fired 11 rounds from his rifle at the agents during the arrest. No agents returned fire, and they later secured the arrest of Perry and O’Dell.

The two men are being held in federal custody without bond after they had separate detention hearings. The court ruled that they pose a danger to the community. Meanwhile, Border Patrol agents are still dealing with a migrant crisis entering its third year. On Friday, the agency announced that Jason Owens, the sector chief in Del Rio Sector, would replace outgoing Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz.
