“6 CHP Officers and 1 Sergeant Enter Not Guilty Plea in Connection to Altadena Man’s Death in 2020” – Renovated Title

Seven California Highway Patrol officers, including Sergeant Michael Little, who restrained a man after he refused to have his blood drawn following a suspected DUI traffic stop, have pleaded not guilty following the death of Edward Bronstein. Bronstein can be heard screaming “I can’t breathe!” while being restrained in a nearby CHP station in Altadena and died while being restrained. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has announced one count each of involuntary manslaughter and assault under the color of authority for the officers, while registered nurse Arbi Baghalian has been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter. The officers face up to four years and eight months in state prison if convicted while the nurse faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison. Bronstein’s family will receive a record $24 million civil-rights settlement from the state. The defendants are due back in court in July when a hearing is scheduled to determine the case’s sufficiency to proceed to trial.
