49ers update: Nick Bosa expected to sign a new contract within days

Using common sense, it’s obvious that the San Francisco 49ers want Nick Bosa on their team. Likewise, Bosa is eager to play football. With less than 14 days remaining until the real deadline, San Francisco won’t play hardball.

Both parties will need to find a compromise, whether it’s regarding specific incentives or financial matters. However, logically speaking, Bosa was never going to leave.

On Monday, a report emerged suggesting that Nick Bosa’s agent was using the roster cut deadline as leverage for negotiation. Despite the deadline passing and Bosa not signing an extension, there’s no need to panic.

The concern among Niners fans is at its peak as Week 1 approaches, but the reigning Defensive Player of the Year has yet to practice since the commencement of the offseason program.

The rumor mill has only fueled the fire, especially with external players commenting on the situation. However, we received good news on Tuesday. Imagine how unbelievable it would be for the 49ers to trade Bosa. That Internet rumor, originating from a Reddit user, caused quite a stir.

I couldn’t help but laugh, especially after former Niners cornerback and current Pro Bowler D.J. Reed chimed in:

However, it would be incredibly detrimental for the 49ers to trade arguably the best Defensive Player in the world just a week after their decision to start Trey Lance. It’s simply not feasible.

The only scenario in which you would even consider trading Bosa is if you receive a franchise quarterback in return. Not just a system QB, but one of the top five quarterbacks in the league. We’re talking about a shortlist:

– Trevor Lawrence
– Lamar Jackson
– Josh Allen
– Joe Burrow

Trading Bosa would be akin to something you’d do in a video game where you prioritize saving over $17 million in cap space. However, in doing so, you also trade away the key component that drives your defense.

While this is a business, and impulsive statements can be made in the heat of the moment, a Bosa trade would be seen as one of the most misguided decisions of my lifetime.

Rather than succumb to panic or let the internet twist facts, it’s more probable that the 49ers have a new deal prepared for their star defensive player instead of entertaining the idea of trading him.
