Fatal shooting of 5 unhoused individuals reported by police
Tragedy struck in Las Vegas on Friday when at least one person was fatally shot and four others were injured. The incident occurred at 5:30 p.m. local time in the area of Charleston Boulevard and U.S. 95, according to police reports.
Victims of the shooting, all of whom were described as “unhoused” by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, were transported to University Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
Treatment efforts, however, were not enough to save one male victim in his 50s, who was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other males in their 30s are currently in stable condition. Another male of similar age is listed as critical, and a male in his late teens is in stable condition.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the victims were all shot by the same individual, who is still at large, leading to concerns within the community.
The Las Vegas shooting is not connected to recent deadly attacks on three homeless individuals in Los Angeles, according to the LAPD. Although the cases share similarities, authorities have stated that they are not related.
With ongoing investigations and crime scene processing, police are working to determine if there is any wider threat to the community.
