3-Year-Old Child Dies on Texas Migrant Bus Journey to Chicago – Orange County Register

Written by Paul J. Weber | Associated Press

In a tragic incident, a 3-year-old child who was traveling on one of Texas’ migrant buses passed away during the journey to Chicago, as announced by officials on Friday. This is the first reported death since Texas began transporting thousands of migrants from the U.S.-Mexico border last year.

The Texas authorities confirmed the death of the child in a statement, without disclosing any information regarding the child’s origin or the cause of their illness. The Illinois Department of Public Health revealed that the child was 3 years old and died on Thursday in Marion County, which is located in the southern part of the state.

Expressing their condolences, the Texas Division of Emergency Management stated, “Every loss of life is a tragedy.” They further mentioned that the bus stopped and the security personnel on board immediately called 9-1-1 for emergency assistance when the child displayed health concerns.

According to the agency, paramedics provided medical treatment to the child, who unfortunately passed away in a hospital later on. The bus had initially departed from Brownsville, a city on the Texas border. All passengers were subjected to temperature checks and inquired about any pre-existing medical conditions, as per state officials.

At the time of writing, representatives from the Texas emergency management agency had not responded to inquiries seeking additional information.

Illinois officials stated that they are collaborating with health officials, state police, and federal authorities to the fullest extent possible, in order to obtain answers in this tragic situation.

Under the leadership of Republican Governor Greg Abbott, Texas has transported over 30,000 migrants to cities controlled by Democrats across the United States since last year, as part of the extensive border operation known as Operation Lone Star. Apart from Chicago, buses have also been dispatched to Washington, New York, Philadelphia, Denver, and Los Angeles.
