12-Year Missing Cat Found in California: Watch the Incredible Reunion!

Oct. 11 (UPI) — A cat that mysteriously disappeared 12 years ago has been reunited with its family in California.

The incredible story begins when Animal Control officer Dalton Churchwell discovered a cat wandering in his Blythe backyard. He quickly scanned the feline for a microchip, which revealed the cat’s real identity.

Riverside County Animal Services reported that the missing cat, named Butters, had been reported lost by its family in San Diego back in 2011.

Churchwell wasted no time in contacting Butters’ family, who had since relocated to Stanwood, Washington. Overwhelmed with joy, owner Angelo Castellino expressed his gratitude for Churchwell’s efforts.

“It was an unbelievable moment. I’m incredibly grateful to Officer Churchwell for successfully identifying Butters. He went above and beyond by doing this on a Sunday night during his time off,” Castellino said.

The ASK Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports animal services, generously offered to cover the expenses of flying Butters back to Seattle for his reunion with the Castellino family.

During the journey, volunteer Larry Rudolph accompanied the cat and handed Butters over to Angelo and his wife, Shelley.

Butters is now safely settling in his new home with his brother, Barnacles.

The Castellino family is still puzzled about Butters’ whereabouts during the 12-year disappearance and how the feline managed to travel over 200 miles from San Diego to Blythe.
