Series Profits Lawsuit Sees Entertainment One Defendant Exonerated

A lawsuit accusing Entertainment One companies of withholding profits from the television series “Hell on Wheels” has dropped one of the defendants. The complaint alleged that Entertainment One Television USA LLC kept millions of dollars in production tax subsidies without sharing with Endemol. The defendant, eOne Ltd., was dismissed from the case but can be brought back later. The judge has scheduled a case management conference for Oct. 19.

Defense attorneys argue that eOne Ltd. was not involved in the agreements between the two parties. According to a declaration by Emily Harris, eOne does not have a presence or assets in California. “Hell on Wheels,” produced by eOne, aired on AMC from 2011-16 and focused on the construction of the U.S. transcontinental railroad. Endemol entrusted eOne with distribution and revenue collection, but claims that eOne kept the production tax subsidies for itself.
