The STAUNTON Christmas Parade is a holiday tradition celebrated by high school marching bands and other groups in the area. Joseph Childress, a member of the Wilson Memorial High School marching band, shared his thoughts about the unique experience of participating in the Christmas parade, likening it to other band activities, but emphasizing the cold temperatures and festive spirits.
Childress expressed anticipation for the upcoming Christmas parade season, considering it as a significant end-of-year celebration. The parade’s theme for 2023 is “A Cozy Christmas,” and part of the attraction for participants includes an array of entries, such as businesses, music and dance groups, and religious organizations.
Notably, a highlight of the parade was the grand marshal, Spider-Man, and the appearance of the beloved Santa Claus. The parade began with opening remarks from Staunton Mayor Steve Claffey, and participants enjoyed a vibrant and festive atmosphere as they made their way through the city streets.
High schools contributed unique entries to the parade, showcasing their spirit and creativity – from marching bands to FFA chapters and drama clubs. Emory Seal, a junior from Buffalo Gap, reflected on the experience, highlighting the joy of connecting with friends and community members amid the chilly weather.
In addition to the lively performance and cheer, the parade also recognized several winners across different categories, adding an element of friendly competition to the celebratory event.
