Harry on Jessie
What were you hoping for?
I was hoping for a free-flowing conversation and lots of laughter.
First impressions?
Jessie’s smile and her charming northern accent immediately disarmed me. And her eyeliner was on point!
What did you talk about?
We discussed the challenges of being a junior doctor, our love for the Tate Modern, and our shared interest in cookery.
Most awkward moment?
I got lost on my way to the date and arrived flustered. I ended up seeking help from an optician’s assistant. It was embarrassing, but luckily they were very understanding. Thank goodness for opticians!
Q&A
Fancy a blind date?
Show
Blind date is our weekly dating column. Every Saturday, we pair up two strangers for dinner and drinks, and then they spill the beans by answering a set of questions. You can read all about it in Saturday magazine and online at theguardian.com. It has been running since 2009.
What questions will I be asked?
We will ask about your age, location, occupation, hobbies, interests, and the type of person you are looking to meet. If these questions don’t cover everything you want to know, feel free to let us know what’s on your mind.
Can I choose who I match with?
No, it’s a blind date! But we do take into account your interests and preferences to try to make a good match.
Can I pick the photograph?
No, we will choose the nicest ones for you.
What personal details will appear?
Your first name, job, and age will appear.
How should I answer?
Please answer honestly but respectfully. Keep in mind that your answers will be read by your date and a large audience, both in print and online.
Will I see the other person’s answers?
No, you will not see the other person’s answers. We may edit both yours and theirs for various reasons, including length, and we may ask for more details.
Will you find me The One?
We will try our best! Who knows, maybe marriage and babies are in your future.
Can I do it in my home town?
Only if you live in the UK. Most of our applicants are from London, but we would love to hear from people living elsewhere.

Thank you for your feedback.
Good table manners?
Jessie’s meal wasn’t made for graceful eating, but I found her love for food far more attractive than refined manners.
Best thing about Jessie?
I loved Jessie’s forthrightness. There was hardly a quiet moment during our conversation.
Would you introduce Jessie to your friends?
Yes, I’m sure my friends would really like her.
Describe Jessie in three words.
Vivacious, loud, joyful.
What do you think Jessie made of you?
I believe Jessie thought I looked good, despite the fact that I was running late from work and had to sprint for the tube. She might also have a soft spot for paisley.
Did you go on somewhere?
Not on that particular evening, but maybe another time.
And … did you kiss?
Well, a passing motorist did suggest we get a room, so you can draw your own conclusions.
If you could change one thing about the evening, what would it be?
I would order differently. The bread in my ploughman’s was so deliciously crusty that I had to either pause mid-anecdote or try to enunciate around it.
Marks out of 10?
I’d give it a 7.
Would you meet again?
Sure, I’m willing to give anything a second try. Except meningitis. Once was enough.
Jessie on Harry
What were you hoping for?
I was hoping for a Keanu Reeves clone, genetically engineered to be in his mid-20s, who would sweep me off my feet.
First impressions?
Harry knows how to rock paisley prints! He was more interesting than I had envisioned.
What did you talk about?
We covered a wide range of topics, from houseplants to moving to London, ordering non-perishable pantry items, and even the classification of psychiatric conditions based on philosophical parameters.
Most awkward moment?
I am a giant ball of awkwardness, but nothing particularly awkward came up during the date.
Good table manners?
Honestly, I didn’t pay much attention to his table manners.
Best thing about Harry?
I loved that Harry was unapologetically passionate about his interests.
Would you introduce Harry to your friends?
Definitely! I think my friends would really like him.
Describe Harry in three words.
Stylish, inspired, perspicacious.
What do you think Harry made of you?
I hope Harry appreciated that I went the extra mile by wearing nail polish for him, even though I had to scrape it off on the 7am bus the next morning for work.
Did you go on somewhere?
Harry walked me to the bus, which was really nice of him.
And … did you kiss?
Maaaayyyyyyyyyyyyybe …
If you could change one thing about the evening, what would it be?
I wish I hadn’t been so nervous that I arrived 30 minutes early.
Marks out of 10?
I’d give it an 8.
Would you meet again?
We swapped numbers, so there’s definitely a possibility.
