Beyoncé’s highly anticipated concert movie, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, is now available to the public, officially premiering in AMC theaters today. The film takes viewers on an incredible journey through Beyoncé’s “Renaissance World Tour,” named after her latest album, from the opening show in Stockholm on March 10 to its final stop in Kansas City on Oct. 1.
Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé isn’t just a concert movie. Unlike Taylor Swift’s similar project, this film provides an intimate behind-the-scenes look into Beyoncé’s personal and professional life during the tour, spanning 39 cities and 56 dates. It showcases her remarkable choreography, iconic fashion, and star-studded guest appearances, including performances from her daughter Blue Ivy, husband Jay-Z, former Destiny’s Child group members, and even Diana Ross.
With a runtime of 2 hours and 48 minutes, this unrated film provides a detailed glimpse into the life of one of the biggest stars in the world. And while it features more than 30 songs, it cuts out some beloved tracks, including “1+1,” “I Care,” “Rather Die Young,” “Love on Top,” and three songs from her album 4. The movie also highlights guest appearances by Destiny’s Child, Megan Thee Stallion, Diana Ross, Kendrick Lamar, and more.
The premiere of Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé was attended by several big names, including Lizzo, Tyler Perry, Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Rowland, Halle and Chloe Bailey, and Kris Jenner.
Critics have given the movie high praise, with a 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Deadline’s Katie Campione said the film “captures all the spectacle and energy that makes Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance World Tour’ legendary.” Variety’s Steven Horowitz called the movie’s editing “stark,” but complimented the behind-the-scenes offerings, and The Hollywood Reporter’s Angie Han said the film “serves up a fully satisfying meal” with the concert recordings and the behind-the-scenes footage and interviews.
Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé is having an international theatrical release launched by AMC Theatres Distribution and is expected to have a $30-40 million global opening. So far, there’s no confirmation on when it will move to streaming services. Whether or not the film will be eligible for an Oscar nomination remains uncertain, according to current guidelines by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science.
