Apple Faces Challenge with Overheating Issue in iPhone 15: A Software Bug to Blame
In a surprising turn of events, Apple has acknowledged a peculiar problem with their latest iPhone 15 models. Users have reported that the devices become alarmingly hot to the touch, making them uncomfortable to handle. Apple has attributed this issue to a software bug and certain app-related problems.
To tackle this problem head-on, Apple has announced that they will be releasing an update for their iOS 17 operating system, which powers the iPhone 15 devices. This update aims to address the glitch causing the phones to become warmer than anticipated. In addition, Apple is working closely with app developers to make necessary changes in applications that put undue strain on the system, leading to overheating problems.
While Apple has not revealed a specific time frame for the software patch, work is underway to fix the app-related issues. Notably, Meta Platforms-owned Instagram has already released an update that prevents its social media app from heating up the new iPhone running iOS 17. However, apps like Uber and Asphalt 9 are still in the process of rolling out their updates, according to Apple.
It is currently unclear if all iPhone 15 models are affected by this overheating problem or if it extends to earlier-generation devices. Apple has not yet responded to CBS MoneyWatch’s request for comment on the matter. Customers began reporting the issue soon after the iPhone 15 was released last week, with some users specifically mentioning the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. “My iPhone 15 Pro Max gets really hot easily. I’m just browsing social media and it’s burning up,” posted a concerned user on X (formerly known as Twitter).
In a previous report by The Wall Street Journal, it was disclosed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max reached temperatures as high as 112 degrees during processor-intensive activities such as gaming or while being charged.
It’s worth noting that new iPhones often generate more heat during initial usage or when restoring backup information from the cloud. Apple usually notifies users about these occurrences. Furthermore, engaging in demanding tasks like video gaming or utilizing augmented reality applications can also cause the devices to warm up. However, the heating issues observed with the iPhone 15 models appear to surpass these typical situations.
