In a video released by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office in Nebraska, the incident is captured showing deputies pulling over the suspected drunk driver in March.
The video includes the audio of the driver’s 911 call and footage of his car driving on the wrong side of the road.
During the call, the 911 caller mentions, “I’m on Highway 77, going north, and there’s somebody on the wrong side of the road.”
He further informs the operator that the other driver had their brights on, which nearly caused him to veer off the road. He states, “He almost hit me.”
The video from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office also displays a deputy driving on the highway, catching up with the 911 caller and eventually discovering his wrong-way driving.
The video confirms that the 911 caller was indeed on the wrong side of the highway.
Upon catching up with the caller, the deputy asks, “Do you know why I stopped you?”
The 911 caller responds, “Yeah, because I was on the wrong side of the road.”
He adds that he must have missed an exit.
When asked if he was the person who made the 911 call, he confirms, explaining that he mistook someone else for driving on the wrong side of the road.
According to the sheriff’s office, the blood-alcohol content of the 911 caller was more than double the legal limit.
He was subsequently arrested, as reported by Fox News.
The sheriff’s office emphasizes that impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of traffic injuries and fatalities.
In this particular incident, no injuries were reported.
John Vik, a representative from the sheriff’s office, tells Fox News that videos like this are being shared to encourage the public to report drunk drivers.
He states, “In this case, the caller happened to be both a caller and an impaired driver,” according to the news outlet.
