Volvo EX30: Smaller, Yet Undeniably Volvo
The EX30, Volvo’s smallest electric SUV to date, made its highly-anticipated debut in New York City. Despite its smaller size, it’s easily recognizable as a Volvo and is priced more affordably than its larger siblings.
Compact and Affordable
Priced at just $34,950, the EX30 is set to arrive in the U.S. and Canada in the summer of 2022. It shares many safety and battery features with the EX90, making it a great addition to Volvo’s growing EV lineup. Additionally, it is the fastest Volvo ever produced, with a 0 to 60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds and an impressive 422 horsepower.
Impressive Range and Charging
The EX30 will offer a range of 275 miles with a single motor and extended range battery, and just 10 miles less with the faster dual-motor all-wheel drive version. It features a Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery and can be fast-charged up to 153 kW, reaching 80% charge in just over 26 minutes.
Distinctly Volvo Design
While Americans tend to prefer larger cars, the EX30 embraces its small European-style crossover appeal. The front of the car features Volvo’s signature Thor’s hammer headlights and rear C-shaped lamps, while the front shield showcases the modern Volvo look and houses important safety sensors.
Efficient Interior Space
The EX30’s compact size is most noticeable in the backseat area, but this has allowed for a creative and functional interior design. A 12.3-inch center screen replaces the traditional driver instrument panel, creating a minimalist and modern dashboard layout. The center console is modular, offering two, one, or no cupholders and additional storage space.
Smart Use of Space
The cargo hold of the EX30 features a movable floor, providing the option for a flat shelf or sunken space, depending on storage needs. The center console also offers a wireless charging pad and various storage options. The frunk, while smaller than the EX90’s, can still hold charging cables.
Unique Features and Safety
Volvo is introducing new bold exterior colors, such as moss yellow, and using natural and recycled materials in the interior. The EX30 will also offer innovative safety features, including a door open alert for approaching cyclists or pedestrians and an advanced Park Pilot Assist system. It will have the largest number of safety sensors among all Volvo models.
Volvo’s EX30 proves that great things come in small packages. With its unmistakable Volvo design, high performance, and affordable price, it’s sure to be a hit in the electric SUV market.
