A woman in Long Beach is facing an amended charge of attempted murder after allegedly choking her 83-year-old uncle, who tragically passed away six days later. The incident occurred on June 8th when police received a report of someone being strangled at the man’s residence on Fanwood Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found the suspect, a female adult, inside the residence with her hands around the victim’s neck. They quickly apprehended her without any resistance. The Long Beach Fire Department was also called to the scene.
Although the victim initially showed no signs of serious injuries and declined transportation to the hospital, a preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and suspect were relatives. It was later confirmed that they were uncle and niece.
The suspect, identified as Jennifer Dail, was arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted murder. She is currently in custody with a bail of $1 million.
Unfortunately, the victim’s health rapidly deteriorated and on June 14th, he was found unresponsive and later pronounced deceased. The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner ruled the man’s death a homicide on June 30th.
Long Beach Police detectives will be meeting with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office to discuss amending the charges against the suspect.
