While mastering the Viennese waltz for BBC One’s show, an athlete faced a setback as his leg became infected due to sweat buildup between his limb and prosthetic leg. Following his performance on October 7, the athlete, Jody Cundy, received a score of 20 from the judges, landing him at the bottom of the leaderboard alongside his professional dance partner, Jowita Przystal. In 2022, Przystal won the Glitterball Trophy with wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin.
Cundy expressed concerns about the possibility of withdrawing from the show if his leg troubles persist. He shared that there were moments when he couldn’t even put his leg on, leaving him uncertain about his dance journey. However, he managed to put his leg back on the following Friday morning, alleviating his fears. Now, he is focused on putting in the hard work and continuing to learn how to dance.
When asked about the current state of his leg, Cundy mentioned that it’s doing well and he is back on his feet. This positive development has allowed him to train without any hindrances. However, he has become more mindful of taking care of his leg. He believes that wearing his leg differently for consecutive training sessions caused damage to it. The silicone liner he wears doesn’t allow for breathability, resulting in excessive sweat accumulation.
Despite his determination, Cundy and his partner found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard once again after their lively salsa performance filled with dynamic lifts and flips. Celebrating his 45th birthday on that Saturday, Cundy received 19 points for his dance to Bellini’s Samba de Janeiro.
Judge Craig Revel Horwood commented on the lack of fluidity in Cundy’s performance but praised him for the lifts. Motsi Mabuse acknowledged his strong start, with Pryztal dramatically tearing open his shirt, but noted a decrease in confidence as the routine progressed. She encouraged him to be more self-assured.
Ahead of the Sunday results show, Cundy expressed his reluctance to leave the competition, stating that he has embraced the experience and feels that he has only just begun to discover the world of dance. He hopes to continue his journey and finds the thought of potentially being eliminated disheartening.
