Netflix Ceases $10 Basic Plan in the US and UK: What Does It Mean for Your Account?
Netflix has discontinued its $10 (£6.99) Basic plan in the US and UK.
Existing users of the ad-free Basic plan can continue with their membership until they decide to cancel, but new and returning users will not have the option.
The available options now include a $6.99 (£4.99) Standard plan with five ad breaks per hour of viewing, a $15.49 (£10.99) Standard plan without commercials and allowing two streams, or a $19.99 (£15.99) Premium plan offering four streams.
Netflix introduced ad-supported plans in 2022, but they have not gained significant popularity among customers, with less than 20% of new subscribers opting for this membership.
While Netflix reveals that at least five million customers globally are on the Basic plan, the specific number for the US and UK remains undisclosed.
Netflix has axed its $10 (£6.99) Basic tier option Tuesday in the US and UK
DailyMail.com has reached out to Netflix for comment.
This move follows Netflix’s quiet elimination of the Basic plan in Canada last month.
Despite previously asserting that it would never incorporate ads into its platform, Netflix seems to be using this decision to encourage users to choose the ad-supported options, which have become a source of revenue for the company.
