Usher received an exciting phone call from Jay-Z, his “big homie,” after being chosen to headline the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show in February. The NFL confirmed the news through a funny promo video on X (formerly known as Twitter) featuring Kim Kardashian. Earlier this year, Usher serenaded Kim during his Las Vegas residency, garnering attention. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the 44-year-old singer expressed his thrill at receiving the call from Jay-Z about this monumental achievement. Jay-Z’s entertainment agency has a long-term partnership with the NFL. Usher revealed, “He said, ‘It’s time, it’s magic time.’ I was confused, but he clarified it was about the Super Bowl. I was ready, absolutely.” Usher believes the opportunity was destined to happen throughout his 30-year career, especially considering his residency in Las Vegas and the city’s role as an entertainment hub. The Super Bowl announcement coincided with Usher’s final show of his Las Vegas residency. This will be the second time Usher performs at the Super Bowl, the first being in 2011 when he joined the Black Eyed Peas on stage. Usher expressed his gratitude to Jay-Z and Roc Nation for putting thought into creating this unique experience. He promised that the performance will be unforgettable. While Rihanna teased a surprise guest for her halftime performance (which turned out to be her unborn child), Usher hinted at the possibility of his own surprise guest but did not reveal any names. He jokingly asked Zane Lowe for suggestions and mentioned collaborating with incredible artists throughout his career. Usher also shared his excitement about his forthcoming album, “Coming Home,” which he described as a love letter to his career legacy. The album will be released on February 11, the same day as Super Bowl LVIII.
