In a letter published by the Guardian, 178 legal scholars from prestigious US law faculties refer to Israel’s response as “a moral catastrophe” and call on the US to take action.
“The Israeli government’s escalating response, with seeming support from the United States government, is resulting in the killing and displacement of unarmed families and children in Gaza. We condemn this,” declares the letter. The calls for a ceasefire are also gaining momentum in other quarters. A coalition of progressive members of the House of Representatives is endorsing the Ceasefire Now resolution, as reported by the Hill. Additionally, dozens of Jewish demonstrators advocating for a ceasefire were arrested outside the White House, according to Axios. At a press conference, Representative Rashida Tlaib emphasized, “We all know collective punishment of Palestinians is a war crime. The answer to war crimes can never be more war crimes,” as reported by the Intercept.
