Unlocking the Potential: Study Finds Viagra May Slash Alzheimer’s Disease Risk by 60%

  • Study looked at 27,000 over-65s and found it lowered men’s risk by 62 per cent
  • The research was undertaken by Mount Sinai Medical Centre in New York

A groundbreaking study of over 27,000 individuals aged 65 and above has found that Viagra can decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s disease in men by a staggering 62 percent.

Mount Sinai Medical Centre in New York conducted this transformative research that sheds light on the potential of Viagra to mitigate the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.

The study highlights the double impact of the little blue pill: blocking the enzyme typically found in abundance in Alzheimer’s patients, and improving blood supply, consequently enhancing brain health.

The research examined the medical records of individuals who were prescribed Viagra and compared them with those who did not take the medication. Mount Sinai Medical Centre spearheaded this ground-breaking initiative.

According to Xingyue Huo, one of the researchers, the study found a significant association between the use of sildenafil (the active ingredient in Viagra) and a 60 percent lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

The study – which looked at more than 27,000 over-65s – found that the risk was 62 per cent lower for men and 47 per cent lower for women if they took the pills (stock image)

Currently, it is estimated that 900,000 people in the UK suffer from Dementia, according to the Alzheimer’s Society. They further estimate that one in three individuals will be affected by the disease in the future.

Recently, MailOnline reported a tragic incident where a 32-year-old man from Iran lost vision in one eye after consuming an excessive amount of sildenafil, the main ingredient in Viagra.

Despite attempts to restore his vision, the damage was irreversible, resulting in complete blindness in his right eye.

While sildenafil is renowned for its effectiveness in combating impotence by improving blood flow to the penis, there is a possibility that this mechanism could inadvertently harm other delicate blood vessels in the body, such as those in the eyes.
