Audi’s flagship gasoline-powered Q8 SUV, the SQ8, dazzled spectators at the Qatar edition of the Geneva motor show. The SQ8 boasts numerous technological advancements and sports a vibrant fire-engine red exterior.
Taking cues from its electric sibling, the Audi Q8 E-Tron, the SQ8 features subtle design tweaks to hide its powerful twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that churns out close to 500 horsepower. Its sleek and aerodynamic exterior showcases smoother surfacing, larger front air intakes for a more aggressive aesthetic, and a revamped exhaust system.
At the front, the SQ8 offers optional HD Matrix LED headlights with a laser high beam, while the taillights now utilize OLEDs. In the United Kingdom, the Audi Q8 line-up includes three core versions: S Line, Black Edition, and Vorsprung, with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. The performance-oriented SQ8, available in Black Edition and Vorsprung variants, starts at approximately $120,000 and comes with distinctive exterior styling, 23-inch alloy wheels, Quattro all-wheel drive, adaptive air sports suspension, and parking assistance.
The revised electric variant of the SQ8, known as the SQ8 E-Tron, begins at a price of $90,895 (excluding the $1,095 destination charge). Notably, the SQ8 E-Tron skips the entry-level Premium trim found in the Q8 E-Tron, making it roughly $11,000 more expensive than its electric counterpart. The Sportback version of the SQ8 E-Tron starts at $93,695, commanding a premium of nearly $10,000 over the Q8 Sportback E-Tron Premium Plus.
Looking ahead, Audi plans to offer gasoline, diesel, and fully electric versions of the Q8 and SQ8. The 2024 SQ8 E-Tron is set to arrive at U.S. dealerships in the fourth quarter of this year, with the internal combustion models expected to follow shortly afterward.
