The IAA Mobility show in Munich served as the perfect platform for Audi to unveil the groundbreaking interior design of its electric vehicles. The 2024 Audi Q6 e-tron, the latest addition to the automaker’s EV lineup, made its debut at the show. It is the first model based on Audi’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture and the first fully electric car built in Ingolstadt, Audi’s hometown.

The Q6 e-tron offers a spacious cabin due to its flat floor, a common feature in EVs built on dedicated platforms. This layout allows for easy access to the rear seats and ample leg- and headroom. The cabin is also designed with storage in mind, featuring a center console with cupholders, a cell-phone charging tray, and two smartphone charging ports.

For cargo space, the Q6 e-tron provides 526 liters in the rear area, which can be expanded to 1,529 liters by folding down the rear seats. Additionally, the front compartment, or “frunk,” offers 64 liters of storage for the mobile charging cable and small bags.

The Q6 e-tron’s interior design is a study in contrasts. Audi’s “Softwrap” concept extends from the doors to the center console, creating a seamless flow throughout the cockpit. Comfort areas feature soft materials and large surfaces, while operational areas exhibit high-quality, high-gloss black finishes. This combination of materials aims to create a clear distinction between form and function, making the interior both aesthetically pleasing and ergonomically efficient.

In terms of color, a contrast is also applied to differentiate comfort and operational areas. The design employs a three-dimensional spatial architecture, with certain elements appearing closer to the foreground or background. This effect is especially noticeable in the Audi MMI panoramic display and the MMI front passenger display. The slim, curved panoramic display incorporates OLED technology and consists of an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch touchscreen.

The Q6 e-tron offers an optional augmented-reality head-up display (HUD) that takes HUD technology to the next level. Instead of projecting information flat onto the windshield, this HUD creates a tilted image that appears to float up to 200 meters away. This unique approach enhances visibility and reduces driver distraction, especially in challenging weather conditions.

Sustainability is a key consideration in the Q6 e-tron’s interior. The S Line model features a Softwrap made from 100% recycled fabric called Elastic Melange. Sports seats with contrasting stitching are also available in this material. Another option is Argument, a recycled fabric used for the standard seats and headliner. The S Line and S models offer sports seats in Dinamica microfibre or fine Nappa leather, both made from recycled materials.

Various sustainable materials are used for the surfaces in the Q6 e-tron’s cabin. The instrument panel is available in a standard trim finish made from renewable raw materials. Optional finishes include wood options and matte brushed aluminum. The S Line and S models offer additional choices such as carbon micro-twill structure or high-tech mesh made from recycled materials.

Another innovative feature of the Q6 e-tron’s cabin is the Interaction Light (IAL), which serves both as an illumination source and a communication tool. The LED lightstrip curves around the interior and cockpit, creating a welcoming ambiance and displaying important information such as turn signals and battery charge level.

In terms of technology, the Q6 e-tron is equipped with an all-new Android-based infotainment platform, providing a seamless and intuitive user experience.
