The Blue Jays’ director of amateur scouting believes that Toronto achieved a crucial balance in this year’s Major League Baseball draft.
Shane Farrell stated that the Blue Jays successfully obtained both young talents straight out of high school and more experienced college prospects in the draft on July 9. On Thursday, the team announced the signing of 15 of their draft picks and three non-drafted free agents.
“I believe we accomplished that balance when looking at a couple of our picks,” said Farrell in a Zoom call from Cape Cod, Mass. “Specifically, Arjun Nimmala in the first round, Landen Maroudis in the fourth round, and then complementing them with some college players in the middle of Day 2.

“Furthermore, we took another chance on a high school player we like, Sam Shaw, later on the second day,” added Farrell.
Nimmala, a 17-year-old shortstop from Strawberry Crest High School in Dover, Fla., was signed on Monday. On Thursday, the team announced the signing of the other 17 prospects.
The new signings include pitchers Maroudis and Connor O’Halloran, who were selected in the fourth and fifth rounds respectively.
Outfielder Jace Bohrofen, shortstop Nick Goodwin, outfielders Braden Barry and Sam Shaw, as well as pitcher Josh Mollerus, selected in the sixth through tenth rounds, have also agreed to deals.
