Tom Cruise Inspires Pom Klementieff’s Passion for Skydiving

Upon arriving in London and settling into her hotel room, Pom Klementieff found herself savoring the delightful flavors of the butter chicken she had enjoyed earlier. Reflecting on the city’s perpetually chilly weather, she expressed her craving for Indian cuisine to combat the cold.

As a 37-year-old actress renowned for her portrayal of the compassionate extraterrestrial Mantis in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Avengers” films, Klementieff was currently engaged in a promotional tour for her upcoming thrilling venture, “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One.” In this film, she assumes the role of a relentless assassin pursuing Tom Cruise’s character.

Speaking with enthusiasm and candor, Klementieff expressed her fondness for playing a villain. The experience offered a cathartic and slightly deranged enjoyment that she found truly satisfying. Interestingly, her character, Paris, was inspired by a male figure from the original TV series that inspired the “Mission: Impossible” movies.

Her involvement in the seventh installment of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise allowed Klementieff to showcase her skills in stunts, such as boxing and taekwondo, which had been somewhat dormant during her Marvel film appearances.

She expressed her enjoyment in portraying a rebellious character who finds solace in the thrill of killing, fighting, and pursuit. Unlike her more physically oriented role as Mantis, this presented a refreshing change of pace.

During our conversation, Klementieff also shared insights into various aspects of her personal interests and inspirations. Below are some edited excerpts:

1

Whenever I find myself alone on Valentine’s Day or feeling a bit down during Christmas due to family matters, “Gone Girl” serves as my go-to feel-good movie.

2

I initially taught myself how to ride motorcycles on the streets and in the countryside of France. However, I am currently undergoing formal training and thoroughly enjoying it. My skills now include executing small skids and stoppies, and my next goal is to learn how to perform wheelies!

3

I derive great amusement from nail polishes with creatively amusing names such as “Natural Connection” and “Sexy Divide.” Typically, I paint all my nails with the same color, but sometimes I opt for a lilac hue on one hand, while the ring finger stands out with a green shade. The same concept is applied to the other hand in reverse.

4

I have discovered a beloved ranch in Colorado that has become my personal haven. It is the place where I find pure happiness. Mister T, a remarkable horse, resides there. He possesses incredible speed, yet remains attentive. The ranch features mesmerizing dunes reminiscent of scenes from “Star Wars” or an otherworldly lunar landscape. The sheer beauty is breathtaking.

5

I hold deep admiration for an exceptional artist in Korea known as @tattooist_doy. His creations are delicate, intricate, and breathtakingly beautiful tattoos. Years ago, during my visit to Korea for the promotion of “Avengers,” he tattooed a sweet violet on my forearm. This flower holds sentimental value as I used to pick it with my uncle in the woods during my childhood. I plan on getting another tattoo from him during my next trip to Asia.

6

I distinctly remember falling in love with “Kill Bill” when it premiered in Paris theaters. The film played a pivotal role in igniting my desire to become an actress. It instilled in me the need to assert my confidence.

7

Several years ago, one of my agents possessed a pair of socks with the phrase “[expletive] you, pay me.” Upon discovering them, I couldn’t resist acquiring a pair for myself. Every time I wear them, they never fail to bring a smile to my face.

8

Baking provides me with immense pleasure due to the precision and attention to detail it demands. From crafting delightful lemon meringue pies adorned with raspberry heart designs to effortlessly creating decadent chocolate fondants, I thoroughly enjoy the process. In the past, I would prepare such treats for my past boyfriends, a long time ago!

Since October 2021, I have embarked on 104 skydiving adventures. This captivating hobby began when Tom Cruise generously gifted me skydiving lessons as a wrap gift. The rush, precision, and sharpened focus I experience during each dive invigorates me. There is something magical about leaping off a hot-air balloon in the early morning, with the rising sun and misty fragrance enveloping me—it feels truly enchanting.

Witnessing live theater holds a mesmerizing and inspiring allure. When you step onto the stage, it’s akin to skydiving—an exhilarating leap into the unknown, without the safety net
