The Voice Season 24 Playoffs: Niall Horan’s Team Slashed
The Voice Season 24 Playoffs launched Tuesday with Niall Horan’s six exceptional contestants, as Niall braced himself to make difficult decisions and cut down to just three singers who’d advance to the live semifinals, admitting he was “scared.” Gwen Stefani shared Niall’s emotional stress and even confessed, “I actually feel sick for you right now!”
The competition was stiff, but Niall inevitably had to make choices though, that Gwen will need to make in the next round. A favorite contestant, throwback songbird Alexa Wildish, was unfortunately eliminated from the season. Team Niall’s Nini Iris, Mara Justine, Claudia B., Julia Roome, Huntley, and Alexa Wildish competed for three spots in ‘The Voice’ Season 24 live semifinals. (NBC)
Niall used a Super-Save — a new twist allowing coaches to bring back a previously eliminated contestant — on 13-year-old Julia Roome, rather than the expected contestant. The Voice history has already seen the elimination of all three singers from a Knockout that judges deemed as one of the very best.
Top Performances
1. Nini Iris, “River”
Niall believed that the gifted pop star could tackle the Bishop Briggs song, though some thought she took it a little too far. Gwen, however, commended Nini for not overdoing it, instead building it to the right moment.
2. Claudia B., “Talking to the Moon”
Claudia delivered an emotional performance as she dedicated the Bruno Mars ballad to her dearly missed fiancé back home. The judges were captivated, and it was a hard decision to not pick her for Niall’s top three.
3. Huntley, “Daylight”
Rock star vibes emanated from Huntley’s performance, and the coaches were amazed by his edgy yet soft rendition of this TikTok-popularized song. He was praised for delivering beyond expectations and is a favorite for the Season 24 finale.
Unexpected Elimination
The elimination of early favorite Alexa Wildish stunned viewers. Niall had previously applauded her ability to sell a song unlike anyone else, and the coaches commended her unique talent.
