Tesla Self-Driving Beta Feature Now In The US

On November 24, 2022, Elon Musk announced the release of Tesla’s self-driving feature in the US.

The CEO said, “Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta is now available to anyone in North America who requests it from the car screen, assuming you have bought this option.”

It is a set of features that may turn autonomous driving into a standard for Tesla vehicles. However, drivers should remember a few caveats while on the road.

The new feature complements the Autopilot and Enhanced Autopilot functions. Specifically, it identifies traffic lights and stop signs and slows your car as they get closer.

Still, you must keep your eyes on the road while driving to avoid potential obstacles. Let us say you want to try this new feature.

You will need a Tesla car with a Full Self-Driving (FSD) computer that is 3.0 or above. Check your Autopilot settings by opening the Controls menu from your car’s touchscreen.

Then, select the Software and then the Additional Vehicle Information option. Alternatively, you may view the configurations in the Tesla app by tapping the Vehicle and then the Specs & Warranty option.

Your current Autopilot package will change how much Tesla’s self-driving beta feature will cost. FSD costs $199.00 monthly if you have Basic Autopilot.

You must pay $99.00 monthly if you have Enhanced Autopilot. Otherwise, you need to pay $15,000 upfront to have the feature.

You may add the new FSD upgrade from your car’s touchscreen or mobile app. You subscribe using the former by opening the Controls menu.

Tap the Upgrades tab to see if you can buy the FSD Subscription. Then, swipe to confirm your purchase. You can use Tesla’s self-driving beta once you download and install the software update.

On the other hand, you can start your self-driving subscription from the app by tapping the Upgrades option.

Tap the Subscribe button and the checkbox beside the Full Self-Driving Capability option. Finally, confirm your decision by tapping the Subscribe button.

Wait for the upgrade to finish installing. Note that your app must use the Tesla Account registered with the vehicle.

Conclusion

Tesla’s self-driving feature is available for beta testing in the United States. Soon, it may become a standard for Tesla cars and other EVs.

Musk’s vehicle company is not the only one with digital upgrades. For example, Mercedes charges a $1,200 subscription fee to unlock additional speed.
